 24 Gallon Aquapod Log

| Home | Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 |

This is a look at my 24 Gallon Aquapod, from the beginning.

It started out as a 20 gallon high tank. I drilled the holes for the over flow but one of the bulkheads cracked the glass and the tank sprung a leak. I was still able to used the wood stand.

I received the Aquapod on the 16th I ordered it from Drs. Foster & Smith I was very pleased to see the tank arrive in 1 piece. You really can't beat fosters and smith when it comes to their shipping cost the tank, the light, and a bucket of salt only $17.99 to ship.

I ordered some chaeto for a refugium that I wanted to set up in one of the rear chambers. I did a lot of searching on the internet to see how other people set up refugiums in these all in one systems, and finally came up with this.

I cut a piece of egg crate to fit then siliconed a couple of ledger strips made from small pieces of 1/4 acrylic. Now I can put a piece of filter floss on top of the egg crate and the refugium will be underneath

Well, I got crazy. I initially had a small refugium in the rear overflow chamber, effective yes, easy to work with no. Here’s where the crazy came in, I removed the false back wall and used a razor blade to remove the silicone from the glass walls, then I installed an 6oo GPH overflow that flows down to a 10 gallon sump/refugium. With a mag 7 return pump I now have a very accessible fuge and also a much greater flow rate in the tank.
